Works well
This worked very well compared the old cord i had been using that automatically tangled every time i tried to use it and resulted in me getting aloft later than intended on more than one occasion. Minor issues are that you WILL need gloves as this will slice right through skin very quickly while lowering anything more than 5lbs. I always wear gloves anyway so this isn't a big problem. Only other issue is that the spool doesn't wind back up silently so occasionally it will all of the sudden spool up and vibrate loudly in its plastic housing. This is always as soon as I finish climbing and pulling up my gear, so there is plenty of noise already, this not anything louder than the climb, or racking a shell in. I removed the weird rubber folding things on the end as I didn't understand how to use them. I replaced it with a D clip that works great. Again, this isn't the best, but realistically its the only thing out there.

better than rope. works. has a few design flaws.
there's a lot good about it so far. one bad thing, which is probably not ever going to cause me to miss an opportunity. is that i'm going for ultra quiet and this hoist will occasionally unwind as it's retracting and make a relatively quiet but definitely audible uncoiling sound. it's probably not the loudest sound i make when climbing a tree but it's close. on a windy day it's not loud enough to be an issue. i'm only using it to hoist a 3lb bow. the gear tie is strong and works fine if you wrap it correctly. just put a bigger gear tie on it if it worries you. the belt clip is too large for a 1" molle loop so you'll have to cut or grind it. I was able to cut it with a regular pair of tin snips and it fits fine in my saddle now.overall - way better than cord that gets tangled up and it's one more thing i don't have to think about.

Great replacement for traditional pull up rope
I looked at many of these types of hoists because I was tired of picking through a tangled mess each time I climbed into my stand. Many of the others seem to have problems with the retracting mechanism being weak or very loud. I decided to try this one and was very happy with it. You don’t even manually retract it as it does so on it’s own. Clip it to your belt or backpack strap and climb. The clip is very strong and it will not move or fall off. It is also very quiet. Then, when you are ready to pull your weapon up, simply pull the string up a foot or two at a time and let it slowly retract. I would highly recommend this. It is worth the money to eliminate the hassle from traditional pull up ropes.

Great for the tree stand hunter
I have twisted and tangled more gear hoist cords than I care to talk about. Nothing is more annoying than watching your gear drop from your twenty-foot stand and realizing that you did not get all of the knots out. This simple retractable design allows for easy, up, and down with the valuables that you take up into your stand. Make sure that you put your gloves on when dropping your gear, especially if you put too much on at one time like I did, to keep from getting rope burn on your hands. Forget about your Boy Scout skills untying knots and just purchase this hoist to save your sanity!

Works well, not quite perfect
Retracts well and quietly, belt clip is sturdy. The retractable cable is flat webbing and is a little difficult to grasp due to its size and being a smooth/slick material.I plan to replace the rubber tie with a carabiner, which should be easier to use and more secure.

Very efficient and convenient!
Much more efficient and convenient!!! I have this clipped onto my pack. I can quickly and easily access the hoist to hook to my bow. The self retract works well but could have a little more tension. I’ve only used 4 times to date but so far, I’m very happy with this purchase.

Meh
I love the hauling line concept. I find this Summit leaves about 4-6 inches dangling consistently. I did at least figure out you need to completely pull it out and let it wind back in, but as you are hauling your bow up and it is retracting, most of the time, it will leave a tail hanging out. It works, but I might check other reviews on other systems and see if they have the same issue. I just went with the same one my buddy was using.

Nice idea but too big and bulky
The idea of this is awesome and the self-retracting aspect is a real winner. However, it is big and bulky. You have to be careful that the line doesn't get twisted when it retracts or you'll have a real problem on your hands. If this was the size of a small tape measure it would be perfect, but this is three or four times that.
