I like it but some things to be aware of....
Sharp lens. Good quality build and heavy due to the materials used, but in a good way. Fast autofocus on a xt30. I find that it gives a vignette darkness at times around the subject but I like the look when it happens. I'm often trying to take photos of my very active 4 year old and it keeps up. I do prefer my Fuji 35mm 1.4 as it is nearly the perfect lens, but I like the 23mm option when in tighter spaces. For the price you can't go wrong.

i think I’m going to sell my Fuji 23mm now. Well done Viltrox!
Wow I’m glad I bought this lens. I read and watched others reviews and took a chance. Its a well built, sharp lens with great AF. Works great for photo & video. I think I’m going to sell my Fuji 23mm lens.My background is that I’ve had a photography company for 17 years, I shoot with Nikon full frame cameras & lenses. For travel & every day I’d much rather shoot w/ my Fuji mirrorless system. They are, fun, lightweight and I love the film look straight out of the camera.I have shot with really good Nikon and Fuji glass and I can say that this lens a very good value. I’ve paid more than double for lenses that arent half as good. The only negatives as others have mentioned are the minimum focus distance could be better (like 15.7”) & it has some vignetting at larger apertures. Both of those issues are easy to deal with. I actually like vignetting sometimes. You can also remove it easily in Photoshop or LR.The positives are sharp photos, great out of focus areas, subject separation, quick & accurate autofocus for photo and video, quiet AF, great build quality and excellent low light performance. The 23mm (35mm equiv) is a great focal length too. It’s great for landscapes, walk around/ travel, wide portraits , cars, music performance, video, vlogging and more. For around $300 its a steal! I’m probably going to now buy the Viltrox 85mm 1.8 which has received many good reviews also. Well done Viltrox. Finally a 3rd party stepping up for Fuji! I can’t wait to see what else they come out with.

This was my face when I saw the pictures coming out of this lens
The media could not be loaded. Not only was this one of the first few pictures I took with this lens;not only did the all metal construction and included metal lens hood thoroughly impress me;not only did this lens catch stuff on my cat's eyeball from what seems an unlikely distance; It does this in 4k video.Absolute 5 stars. I'd buy this for people who have Fujis and still only swear by Fuji glass. Incredible low light video. 0 cons. I have so far taken about 10 hours of video, and maybe about 500 pictures since purchasing this lens about 2 weeks ago. I kept the box though to keep my original kit lens.I have no idea what I am doing. It makes all of the stupid mundane things I do look like they were done in a professional photo shoot. The included video is meant to show off the the quality of the video, but also that noise from the auto-focus.I use a shotgun mic with a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter jack into the camera to record because I don't have to sync the audio and video later and I am too lazy to clap my hands every time I try to record anything. It's extra eq, more batteries, more cables, another adapter, but, for me, using a shotgun mic is just better. I'm too old to learn parametric equalizer alchemy.*Edit: First time putting video into an Amazon review. Was not aware they compressed the video with whale carcasses.*

Good, budget lens that is sharp for a prime.
This is the first prime lens I ever bought and it's surprisingly good for photos. I don't know how it compares personally to the Fuji equivalent, but all the reviews I've seen have said it is as good or better than it.For video, it's a bit annoying to use if you leave the camera on auto aperture or shutter speed because it is quite noisy when switching. Also, for video I could not recommend this lens because when going from light to dark scenes, you can see it stepping up and down and it doesn't look like a smooth transition. Maybe they can fix this in a firmware update. For the price though, this lens is great for the 23mm focal length and can hold its own against the Fuji 23mm. For now, I'd say buy it for photos, but not video until they sort out the aperture switching issues otherwise stay on full manual control.

Reliable, versatile, sharp, fast with little distorion
I do most of my photography either with a 23mm or 35 mm equivalent - in the past with Sony a7iii and now with a Fujifilm XT3. I moved to the Fuji world because I was dissatisfied particularly with th 35mm options the Sonny world offered me. So, I started with the 23mm /f2 Fujinon (that is 35mm equivalent). It was not as sharp as the 16mm/f2, especially at close distance. At long distance, it also showed, in my opinion, under-standard performance. I never bought the Fujinon 23mm/f1.4 because the reviews indicated only a small improvement in both short and long distance sharpness. All reviews were excellent, on the other hand, when talking about the 16mm/f2 and especially about the Fujinon 16mm/f1.4, which is my all-time favorite now and rarely leaves muy camera. When it leaves, surprisingly enough, it is for the Viltrox 23mm/f1.4. I find it sharp, responsive, endowed with a delicate, soft tonality that renders the colors vivid yet subtle. I especially like it for portraits. The bokeh is not perfect but does the job. And what is more crucial, the faces and especially the eyes are captured with precision even in dark conditions. I was first skeptical because of its made-in-China character and its relatively cheap price, but in the month or so I have been using it, I have only positive things to say about it. With my Fujinon 16mm/f1.4 , the Viltrox 23mm/1.4 goes everywhere I go.
