Hornady 486515 American DIESET Free Shell Holder

Cheaper across the board. Not carbide or nitride. Requires cases to be lubed . No locking rings, have a poor imitation of the Lee style nut and o ring. cheap non reusable bubble pack, no storage box to protect them and keep everything together. Overall, if you just add a cheap plastic storage container and decent lock rings, you have spent as much as on a nice set of carbide or nitride dies, and still have to go through the extra steps of lube the cases and then clean cases to remove the lube after sizing. 35+ years reloading and these are the first set of dies I have turned my nose up at. Hornady, you should be ashamed to put your name on these. I sent them back for the better titanium nitride ones, and bought a shell holder, since the better ones don't include one with the set. Dont bother with these, spend a few bucks more and you won't have to upgrade.

I was reluctant to buy this set of dies versus spending additional for the pro dies but I’m very happy with these. They don’t come with a box but it includes the shell holder which is always nice to have, and they perform excellent. Since I leave them in the tool head all the time I don’t miss the box :) These adjust just like the pro dies and come with Hornady’s great warranty. They operate smoothly and arrived nicely polished with no nasty machine marks. Again I’m very satisfied with these for the price and will consider ordering them again in the future for other calibers.

Do! Not! Buy! This! Junk!!!Be warned,,, These dies are complete SH!T people, do not buy them! They tear up the copper jackets and throw the headspace so far out of whack, you cannot fire the rounds!! I have little copper rings sitting atop of the casings because these dies peel a copper layer off the bullet and pressed it atop the case head, the round is no good! I feel like such a damn fool because I should have gone with RCBS and avoided this cheap crap... Lesson Learned!!

These die work well. The sizing die is the equivalent of other brands' carbide die, so you don't have to use lube. You can if you prefer, but you don't have to. It comes with several extra depriming pins in case a Berdan primer gets past you. Included directions are minimal, but more thorough ones are on their website. No storage case.

Fantastic die set for reloading. I will definitely buy other die calibers from Hornady.

Gr8 for being Hornady. Don’t like the crimp thou. I ordered a lee crimp die and bought the cheap one . Big mistake . Reordered the better lee factory crimp that I’m use to . Finger crossed.

I’m a huge fan of the American series die set, unfortunately in 9 mm the tolerances might be a little too tight. It takes a lot of forced to resize with these dies.

Sent dies for .38 Spl. instead of .40 S&W.Sent back, got same result. Sent back again and bought used .40 S&W from Ebay. Humans involved!!! Check your received goods closely.

My first Hornady American die set. It came a week late in the mail and the packaging was damaged. The dies were in a plastic blister pack instead of a plastic reusable box like other dies come in. And the locking ring does not have a locking set screw like other die sets. With the expander die the expander plug is part of the die and can not be removed. But I do like the fact that the seating die did come with a taper crimp. Overall the dies work okay but I'm not sure I would purchase the American series of dies again. I will definitely still buy Hornady products, I have many already.
